About the book
Uncertainty analysis aims to quantify the variability of the output quantities of interest (QoI) with respect to the variabilities of input QoI. There exist several sources of uncertainty which make the model (mathematical or numerical) unreliable and less predictive. The major sources of uncertainty are model parameters, in- and output boundary conditions, spatio-temporal variability of parameters, structure and numerical uncertainty. In order to achieve reliable mathematical models, the output uncertainty due to different sources of uncertainty must be reduced.
The output uncertainty in mathematical models can be reduced by using uncertainty and sensitivity analysis.
This book intends to provide the reader with a comprehensive overview of uncertainty quantification and sensitivity analysis, their implementations and possible applications in different fields of science and technology.
