About the book
DNA is continuously exposed to a myriad of physical and chemical agents that damage the DNA and impact the health and condition of living organisms. However, DNA repair enzymes faithfully protect the DNA and preserve the genomic sequence information. In many cancers, DNA repair pathways are disrupted and deregulated, and that results in genomic instability. Besides cancer, other human diseases are also caused due to unresolved DNA damage. However, robust DNA repair and damage tolerance pathways help remove or tolerate the lesions to allow survival.
This book aims to highlight the mechanisms of DNA repair, enzymes involved in repairing the damaged DNA, consequences of toxic exposures, diseases, and recent advances in research regarding the DNA repair mechanisms. This book will also provide the reader with a comprehensive overview of the DNA repair mechanisms, enzymes involved, and pathological consequences of the damage caused by physical and chemical agents on DNA.
