With advances in mobile computing, MANET or mobile ad-hoc networks gained popularity. Earlier networks had fixed interconnection between nodes or hosts. In MANET the interconnection is variable since the nodes are moving and have limited transmission range. Communication between nodes takes place by sending probe frames and response frames. A link is established between a node to all other nodes from which it received response frames against its own probe frame. This link may not exist after some time when these two mobile nodes go beyond the communication range of each other. This variable interconnection had led to the design of several new routing algorithms in MANET. Also, there had been a lot of advances in communication technology in different generations of MANET. This includes CSMA/CA, FDMA, TDMA, CDMA. In the current state of the art research, there had been a lot of emphasis on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing, i.e., OFDM. A more specialized version of MANET applied for transport vehicles is VANET or vehicular ad-hoc networks. MANET is susceptible to various types of attacks like denial of service attack, black hole attack, and routing attacks. There had been diverse research related to detection, prevention, and recovery from these attacks. The book will address all recent research advances for MANET.
