About the book

This book aims to summarize and review the state-of-art development of bismuth photonic materials in the past 20 years. It not only offers a comprehensive reference tool for researchers, engineers and industrial practitioners, but also points out the remaining challenges and the future trend. Contributions are desired, but not limited to, on the following topics: Bismuth fundamentals including structure model, bismuth active centre (BAC), the origin of near-infrared (NIR) emission, energy transfer, valence, etc ;Bismuth doped materials with broad NIR emission including bismuth doped crystal, bismuth doped glass, bismuth doped optical fibre, bismuth/erbium co-doped optical fibre, etc; The formation and control of BACs including thermal treatment, ionizing radiation, laser radiation, chemical reduction with H2 or SiC, etc; Advanced fabrication technology for bismuth photonic materials including modified chemical vapor deposition (MCVD), plasma chemical vapor deposition (PCVD), atomic layer deposition (ALD), topological engineering, melt and quenching, etc; Photonic applications including broadband light source, laser, amplifier, sensor, etc.

Deadline for full chapters: February 8th 2020

Once approved by the academic editor and publishing review team, chapters are written and submitted according to pre-agreed parameters

Full chapters peer reviewed

Review results due: April 28th 2020

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: June 27th 2020

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Dr Yanhua Luo received his B.E and PhD degrees from University of Science and Technology of China (UTSC) in 2004 and 2009, respectively. Currently, he works as a deputy director of Photonics & Optical Communications at University of New South Wales (UNSW) assisting Prof. Gang-Ding Peng to maintain the National Joint Fibre Facility at UNSW and develop the next generation functional specialty optical fibers and their devices. His research interest is functional photonics materials, fibers and devices, including rare earth based photonic materials, photo-responsive photonic materials, POF and silica fiber-design, fabrication & applications, etc. He has made many contributions to photonics materials and devices, i.e. developing 3 modes EDFA applied for the mode multiplexing transmission by NEC America Lab; introducing 3D printing technique for the fibre fabrication; develop D shaped fibre gratings applied for SHM of the world largest wind turbine by Vestas; proposing and developing bismuth erbium codoped fibre with ultrabroad band emission; etc. So far he has held 2 China patents and co-authored 108 refereed journal papers, >90 conference papers and 7 book chapters on these subjects. His papers have been cited >1900 times by Google Scholar, with an H-index 23 and >1200 times by ISI Web of Science, with an H-index 18.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Ms. Marina Dusevic

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
