About the book

With growing concerns about more efficient energy systems with modern energy conversion systems and increased penetration of renewable energy sources, more attention has been paid to the development of new topologies for electric machines and drives to meet the needs of stakeholders, especially the industrial needs with new applications from the perspective of speed, operational capability, performance, efficiency, maintenance, lifetime, flexibility, control, torque value, and power density, cost, and robustness.

The main focus of this book is to present and discuss in detail the configuration, characteristics, operation and control strategies, merits, demerits, and potential applications of electric machines such as robotics, aircraft, ships, electric vehicles (EVs), wind turbines, smart unmanned systems, modern smart appliances, and other recent energy conversion system perspectives. In conclusion, this book aims to introduce good practice with new research outcomes, and ideas that connect to-date, and emerging roles of electric machines and drives for modern power grids.

Publishing process

Book initiated and editor appointed

Date completed: September 7th 2020

Applications to edit the book are assessed and a suitable editor is selected, at which point the process begins.

Chapter proposals submitted and reviewed

Deadline for chapter proposals: October 5th 2020

Potential authors submit chapter proposals ready for review by the academic editor and our publishing review team.

Register for the book

Approved chapters written in full and submitted

Deadline for full chapters: December 4th 2020

Once approved by the academic editor and publishing review team, chapters are written and submitted according to pre-agreed parameters

Full chapters peer reviewed

Review results due: February 22nd 2021

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: April 23rd 2021

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Ahmed Faheem Zobaa received his BSc (Hons), MSc, and PhD degrees in Electrical Power and Machines from Cairo University, Egypt, in 1992, 1997, and 2002, respectively. Also, he received his Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from the University of Exeter, UK, in 2010, and his Doctorate of Science from Brunel University London, UK, in 2017. He was an instructor from 1992 to 1997, a teaching assistant from 1997 to 2002, and an assistant professor from 2002 to 2007 at Cairo University, Egypt. From 2007 to 2010, he was a senior lecturer in renewable energy at the University of Exeter, UK. Currently, he is a reader in electrical and power engineering, an MSc course director, and a full member of the Institute of Energy Futures at Brunel University London, UK. His main areas of expertise include power quality, (marine) renewable energy, smart grids, energy efficiency, and lighting applications. Dr. Zobaa is an executive editor for the International Journal of Renewable Energy Technology. He is also an executive editor-in-chief for Technology and Economics of Smart Grids and Sustainable Energy, and an editor-in-chief for the International Journal of Electrical Engineering Education. He is also an editorial board member, editor, associate editor, and editorial advisory board member for many international journals. He is a registered chartered engineer, chartered energy engineer, European engineer, and international professional engineer. He is also a registered member of the Engineering Council UK, Egypt Syndicate of Engineers, and the Egyptian Society of Engineers. He is a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy of the UK and a fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Energy Institute of the UK, the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Royal Society of Arts, the African Academy of Science, and the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He is also a member of the International Solar Energy Society, the European Power Electronics and Drives Association, and the IEEE Standards Association.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
