About the book

Pests are invertebrate or vertebrate species detrimental to humans or human concerns, including Crops, Livestock and Forestry. The Science that studies Pests and their Management can be defined by the general term, Pest Science. This book aims to address the wide spectrum of issues considering Pest Science. Written by scientists for scientists, the authors analyze modern topics of Pest Science that concern Agricultural Zoology, Entomology, Insect Molecular Biology, Insect Borne Diseases, Insect Taxonomy, Integrated Pest Management, Rodent Biology, Pesticide Chemistry and Plant Biotechnology fields. Moreover, the Editors, aimed to moderate the content of this book in order to be suitable for students majoring Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Entomology, Plant Biotechnology, Urban and Medical Entomology, Zoology etc. and for Pest Control Practitioners who want to branch out their knowledge and specify their technical skills. For that reason they summarized all important scientific and technical data that exist for Fumigation Technologies, Pest Control, Insecticide Development, Taxonomy and Identification of Vertebrate and Invertebrate Pests in order to create a fully detailed Handbook of Pest Science.

Dr. Dimitrios Kontogiannatos is a collaborative Researcher at the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) and the National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos” (NCSR “Demokritos”), Athens, Greece. In 2013, he received his PhD diploma in Insect Biotechnology and Insect Molecular Biology from the AUA's Department of Biotechnology, being specialized in Pest Control Science and Insect Biotechnology. His research mainly focuses on the use of RNA interference (RNAi) technology in designing insecticidal formulations of low environmental cost. Additionally he is studying the molecular and physiological impact of various xenobiotics on the developmental processes of the terrestrial arthropods. From 2015 to present he is collaborating with the AUA's Biotechnology Dept. as part-time Assistant Professor. In 2018 he founded and currently runs a Pest Control Company headquartered in Argyroupolis, Attica, Greece, named "PROPEST FHG".
