About the book

In this book, the generation, focusing, formation and application of high-current electron beams will be reviewed. The use of new emission materials and technology for creating advanced emitters based on them will be described in detail. The conditions of their operations are discussed with the aim of ensuring the required life and stability of their emission properties. The main types of electron emissions and their uses for the formation of axisymmetric, tape and tubular electron beams will be described. The role and value of the electric and magnetic fields for focusing and transporting electron beams will be shown. Attention will be given to the mathematical simulation of charged particle ensembles and their application for learning physical processes and phenomena in electron beams. Methods for describing systems of charged particles (electrons), basic equations and characteristics of mathematical models will be given. The emphasis will be on the particle-in-cell (PIC) method and the features of their application to study complex collective processes of electromagnetic interaction in electron beams. Examples of the use of electron beams in vacuum microwave tubes will be given, as well as the prospects for their applications in scientific research, industry, medicine, etc

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Gennadiy I. Churyumov (M’96–SM’00) received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in Electronics Engineering and his Ph.D. degree from the Kharkiv Institute of Radio Electronics, Kharkiv, Ukraine, in 1974 and 1981, respectively, as well as the D.Sc. degree from the Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kyiv, Ukraine, in 1997. He is a professor at two universities, Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, and Harbin Institute of Technology. He is currently the Head of a Microwave & Optoelectronics Lab at the Department of Electronics Engineering at the Kharkov National University of Radio Electronics. His general research interests lie in the area of 2-D and 3-D computer modeling of electron-wave processes in vacuum tubes (magnetrons and TWTs), simulation techniques of electromagnetic problems and nonlinear phenomena, as well as high-power microwaves, including electromagnetic compatibility and survivability. His current activity concentrates on the practical aspects of application of microwave technologies.
