About the book

The next generation of mobile broadband networks, commonly called 5G, is promising wider coverage, much faster data speeds, very low latency, and highly reliable connections for smartphones and other devices than ever before. Working alongside 3G/4G systems and coexisting with Low Power Wireless Area (LPWA), 5G will be crucial for new domains of smart services and applications without human interactions, such as Machine-to-Machine (M2M), Internet-of-Things (IoT), Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) or Vehicle-to-X (V2X), sensors gateways or servers’ communications, surveillance cameras, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), autonomous vehicles, medical robots, etc. Different advanced techniques have been developed for the mobile 5G radio interface and backhaul in order to build reliable, cost-efficient and performing mobile networks, and to endorse the deployment and the operation of a sustainable ecosystem for 5G and beyond. Furthermore, new emerging information technologies are used to build an intelligent mobile-aware operating environment. The major components of such mobile environment are Big Data Analytics (BDA), cloud-computing, Mobile Edge Computing (MEC), IPv6, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Software Defined Networks/Network Functions Virtualization (SDN/NFV), etc. 5G should be commercially launched as early as next year in some countries, but so far it seems like there are more questions about 5G than there are answers.

This book intends to provide the readers with a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art in different aspects related to 5G communications networks and the use of emerging technologies (MEC, AI, BDA, etc.) in the mobile context of 5G and beyond, evolving with the services/applications landscape.

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: October 13th 2020

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Dr. Ing. Abdelfatteh Haidine is an Associate Professor for telecommunications and networks. He holds a PhD (Dr. Ing.) in telecommunications from Technische Universität Dresden (Germany), which focused on the planning and optimization of broadband communication access networks. He has worked in different European research and industry projects, where he gained experience in system modelling, evaluation of network performance, combinatorial optimization, design of graphical user interfaces, and evaluation of trial/test fields. Currently, he is with the National School of Applied Sciences (El Jadida, Morocco) as a member of the Laboratory of Information Technologies. His research interests are simulation and evaluation of 3GPP Long Term Evolution - Advanced and its derivative releases, as well as design and evaluation of communication networks for smart cites/smart grids, such as 3GPP Narrowband-Internet of Things (NB-IoT), WiMAX, CDMA450, etc.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
