Being a major iron ore, the key focus of hematite research has generally been on various aspects of ironmaking operations, reduction reactions, blast furnace, and direct ironmaking etc. While these traditional areas have grown tremendously in the past few decades, several new fields of hematite research have opened up. These include the exploration of the magnetic behaviour of hematite deep within the earth's mantle, hematite spherules on Mars, water splitting and hydrogen conversion using hematite mesocrystals, nanorods, etc., 2D hematene material, an atomically thin form of hematite, use as microwave absorption material etc. In addition to new research fields, this book will focus on recent developments in traditional research on hematite such as thermal transformations, reduction behaviour, mineral phase transitions, reaction kinetics, reductants etc.
