About the book

Written by experts in the field of bariatrics, this edited volume will review the multidisciplinary process from the reception of the obese patient, through their dietary, social and psychological evaluations, and their individual management options, to their discharge and follow-up. It offers a holistic, up-to-date resource in the ever-evolving field of bariatrics, providing the knowledge required to implement treatment effectively. Experts in the field will discuss not only surgical procedures in the abdomen, but also other possibilities which are nowadays available and may act both as sole or as adjuvant therapies, including the significance of physical exercise, psychological and social support, nutritional strategies, and pharmacological options. The perioperative care of the patient is organized around the ERAS protocol, where safety and the anaesthetic team have a key role.

This book is addressed to all the staff involved in the care of the obese patient (as physicians, surgeons, bariatric anaesthesiologists, nutritionists, psychologists, nurses, physical therapy specialists), providing readers comprehensive information that will help them consolidate the importance of each individual contribution to teamwork in this multidisciplinary approach to treatment.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Ms. Kristina Kardum Cvitan

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
