About the book

As the quest to proffer solutions to frequency dynamics and voltage stability in modern power grids is on the rise, energy storage devices are bound to play a key role. The need for power smoothing approaches, considering the penetration of intermittent renewable energy sources in standalone or existing grid connected systems, is imperative. This book would discuss some of the energy storage devices in Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems, Wind farms, Smart Grids, Electric Vehicles, Hydrogen Vehicles and Bioengineering processes. These energy storage devices could serve as a short term or long term energy storage systems, for the enhanced performance of the systems they are employed.

Detailed performance analysis in dynamic and transient conditions will be carried out regarding the use of energy storage devices in power grids and smart networks, in order to judge the robustness of the controllers involved in the energy storage topology. For the bioengineering applications, various environment working conditions will be explored, to see the effects on energy storage devices. This book will hopefully be helpful to readers interested in the current state-of-the-art of the applications of energy storage devices.

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: October 18th 2021

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Kenneth Eloghene Okedu

Kitami Institute of Technology

Kenneth Eloghene Okedu was a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Research Fellow in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2013 at Cambridge, Boston, USA. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Kitami Institute of Technology, Hokkaido, Japan in 2012. He received his B.Sc. and M. Eng. degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria in 2003 and 2007, respectively, where he was retained as a Faculty member from 2005 until the present day. He was also a visiting Faculty member to the Petroleum Institute, (ADNOAC), Abu Dhabi. He was also a visiting Faculty member to the Caledonian College of Engineering, Muscat, Oman (a university college with Glasgow Caledonian University, UK). He is presently a visiting Professor to the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Muscat, Oman in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research interests include power system stability, renewable energy systems, stabilization of wind farms using doubly fed induction generator variable speed wind turbine, augmentation and integration of renewable energy into power systems, grid frequency dynamics, wind energy penetration, FACTS devices and power electronics, renewable energy storage, hydrogen and fuel cells.
