About the book
Nowadays, cardio and cerebrovascular diseases are the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the world, representing a burden for both the individual and society. Changes in the patient's lipid profile, especially the increase in plasma levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL-cholesterol), is unanimously recognized today as one of the most important cardiovascular risk factors that plays a major role in initiating the development of structural changes and vascular remodeling, and later as the trigger point for the atherosclerosis process. In the last decade, statin therapy having well-established benefits in primary and secondary prevention of coronary heart disease and stroke, has earned an important place in many of therapeutic guidelines for the management of these diseases, but also in the treatment of other forms of high-risk cardiovascular disease conditions.
This book aims to review the clinical and pharmacological issues regarding the statin therapy. The clinical issues should refer to the benefits and risks of statin therapy in relation with the indications and contraindications of this therapy. The Editors hope that this book will offer a comprehensive, updated, and current research perspectives on statin therapy for a wide range of people, from students, clinicians, practicing researchers, academics, PhD students and other health professionals.
