About the book

The worldwide demand for energy requires a development of improved technologies for sustainable producing, converting and energy storing. Energy materials as well as their devices are urgently demanded, they are the key and foundation to the realization of new energy. The developments of energy storage and conversion techniques strongly depend on the achievements of material science. Moreover, the reconstruction and collaboration among various studies of energy materials based on physics, chemistry, materials, mechatronics, and electricity is necessary for creating the novel thin film devices. Many different methods are used to fabricate thin films, including physical techniques and chemical processes. Physical vapor deposition and chemical vapor deposition are the two most common types of thin film formation methods. This book therefore aims to describe the development and creation of novel thin film energy devices. This book will comprise important topics and will be edited by world authorities in their fields, i.e. physics, chemistry, materials, mechatronics, and electricity. The experts of these fields will collaborate on this book about the recent progress and design for the future. Readers will find a detailed description of fabrication and characterization of thin films and their functional performance from leading researchers.

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: November 30th 2019

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

About the editor

Mitsunobu Sato

Kogakuin University

Prof. Dr. Sato is the president of Kogakuin University of Technology & Engineering (KUTE-Tokyo) from 2015 and a full professor at the Department of Applied Physics, School of Advanced Engineering. He received his PhD in Engineering (synthetic chemistry) from the University of Tokyo, Japan, in 1985, and an honorable doctoral degree at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taiwan, in 2017. He joined the research department of science and technology, National Science Museum in 1982. From 1991 to 2002, Dr. Sato was a lecturer and an associate professor in the Faculty of Engineering, KUTE-Tokyo. Since 2002, he has been a full professor. Dr. Sato research interests include the fabrication process of nanostructured materials, and functional thin films such as lithium ion batteries, semiconductor thin films and biocompatible coatings for implant materials etc. He has published more than 80 original papers in international journals and has been invited to numerous conferences.
