About the book

In the field of plasma physics, plasmas which include fine charged particles have been actively studied for more than 40 years, and special features of wave phenomena, self-organization of particles, potential formations, fluid-like motion of particles, generation of particles within the plasma, etc. have been investigated. These plasmas are called fine particle plasmas, also known as dusty plasmas or complex plasmas. Studies on fine particle plasmas (dusty plasmas and complex plasmas) include research on Coulomb crystals, self-organization of particles in plasmas, fluid-like motion of charged particles in plasmas, wave propagation and potential formations of these plasmas. Dust formation by plasma-wall interactions in the plasma's torus related with controlled nuclear fusion is included. Synthesis of nano-sized particles by reactive plasmas and particle generation during reactive plasma processing are also included, as well as crystallization and self-organizations of particles in colloid states. Studies of interstellar medium, ice particles motion in the upper atmosphere, trapping of charged particles by a Paul trap or a Penning trap are considerably related with fine particle plasmas. This book intends to present readers with recent progress in fine particle plasmas studies, providing a viewpoint on wide and interdisciplinary directions. Knowledge exchange of new scientific results between scientists and engineers is expected.

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Shizuoka University

Dr. Tetsu Mieno graduated from Shizuoka University in 1979 and received his PhD degree in engineering from Graduate School of Engineering, Tohoku University in 1984. He became a professor at the Department of Physics, Shizuoka University in 1999. He also belongs to Graduate School of Science & Technology, Shizuoka University. He is studying plasma science experimentally, including fine particle plasmas. His research interests also include synthesis, analysis and applications of carbon nanomaterials.
