About the book
Wood is a natural bio-composite material, which can be processed to make traditional primary products (such as lumber and timber) and secondary products (such as conventional wood-based composite panels and modern structural composite panels). The overall objective of this book is to increase the awareness of engineered wood products, their uses in construction, and their contributions to the reduction in carbon footprint. This book starts with an introduction to wood as a natural bio-composite material, followed by the basic knowledge of the anatomic features of wood from nano to meter levels. The emphasis will be put on a discussion on the construction uses of engineered wood products, which are manufactured via chemical, physical, and mechanical approaches or combined. These engineered wood products include solid timber products and those made of strands, veneer, and lumber. Other innovative engineered wood products, such as wood-based sandwich panels, and advanced uses will be discussed as well.
This book intends to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art in engineered wood products and their uses for wood manufacturers, engineers, architects, builders, researchers, and students.
