About the book
The book aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the most important aspects of myocardial infarction from pathophysiological and clinical points of view. The goal is to present the main clinical problems concerning myocardial infarction, but also to highlight cutting-edge research and novel advances in the pathophysiological understanding of myocardial infarction. It will include topics that venture into molecular and cellular signaling and mechanisms that play roles in the build-up of coronary artery atherosclerotic plaques and microvascular coronary dysfunction, as well as roles in perpetuating damage during myocardial infarction and after the acute ischaemic event. Electrophysiological changes and arrhythmias are going to be explored, as are details of the clincal presentation, symptoms, diagnostic procedures and possibilities of both interventional treatment, as well as pharmacological treatment. Both topic areas of current pharmacological options and recommendations and of potential future pharmacological and interventional targets are encouraged. The book seeks to include not only an up-to date overview of the best possible care and follow up of patients suffering from myocardial infarction, but also to give insight into visions of potential future scientific advancements in the fields of diagnostic and therapeutic endeavors, aimed at improving prognosis and quality of life.
