He received an award from ABCM (Brazilian Mechanical Sciences Association) due to his advisory role in the production of the best Final Graduate Monography in 2009, in the field of Mechanical Engineering, related to the shape factors of abrasive particles.


Tiago Cousseau

Federal University of Technology – Paraná

Dr. Cousseau obtained a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (2013) from Porto University and was later a Post-doctoral researcher at São Paulo University. He developed several original types of equipment to assess the efficiency and durability of machine elements that are used by industrial partners for product development.

About the book

Since the seminal Jost's report in the sixties, Tribology is closely related to maintenance. Herein, the subjects that are addressed in Tribology-Based Maintenance are related to the efficiency, durability, and reliability of machine elements. Contact mechanics and elastohydrodynamic lubrication are the foundation to design efficient and reliable tribological systems. Condition monitoring is essential to avoid unpredictable and expensive disturbances, failure and shut down in industrial production and transportation. Components and lubricant integrity/failure analysis provide proper feedback on the design and condition monitoring. By bringing together these three fields of knowledge with several business cases, this book will serve as a guide to define the best strategies to maintain and improve tribological systems. Therefore, strategies to control machinery reliability and efficiency to predict its future performance, such as instrumentation and modeling, will be provided and will be backed-up on techniques to characterize the current state of machinery components along with a proper understanding of trends and physical laws influencing the progress of machinery deterioration.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: December 18th 2021

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Dr. Pintaude received a degree in Metallurgical Enginerring in 1996 and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 2002. He was a Coordinator of the Program of Post-Graduation in Mechanical and Materials Science at UTFPR (Federal University of Technology - Parana) from September 2008 to March 2014. Also, a Director of Graduate Courses at UTFPR from June 2019 to October 2020. Dr. Pintaude is a recognized researcher by CNPq - The Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development. He is a Subeditor of Matéria (UFRJ), he served as a Guest Editor for SN Applied Sciences (Springer), and is a Member of Editorial Board of Smart Materials in Medicine (KeAi Publishing).

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Ms. Sara Debeuc

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
