About the book

The world is facing challenges in environmental, food, nutritional, social, and economic security; in particular conservation of natural resources, especially soil and water, is an alarming issue. Soil moisture is a major limiting factor to break the sustainable development of these conditions. Poor soil and water management are more often related to insufficient / poor rainfall distribution around the globe. In modern agriculture, over-cultivation, deforestation, overgrazing, and high dependence on irrigated cropping systems with high water requirements of crops increase soil and water erosion. Meeting of food and nutritional security targets requires the implementation of time-demand policies that ensure soil and water retention for sustainable productivity, particularly for farmers in the developing world who are dependent on rainfed agriculture. Soil and moisture erosion cause not only low crop productivity, but also a decline in biodiversity and have a vital effect on soil / water ecosystem services. Hence, improved soil moisture management is crucial for the future world. Therefore, we need soil and water conservation to secure the world for a better future, in which conserved soil moisture supports environmental, food, nutritional, social, and economic security under a sustainable ecosystem.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Ms. Marijana Francetic

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
