About the book
Geophysics has broad applications in many fields from oil and gas exploration to engineering. Nowadays, many engineers use geophysical methods for investigation. However, there are many engineering geophysicists that do not know how to implement the final formula in the integral or derivative form in a computer program. This book aims to make a bridge between applied geophysics and programming in a step-by-step manner in all near-surface geophysics fields which are used in a variety of engineering and environmental projects. In each chapter, first a geophysics method, along with its essential formulas, is briefly reviewed. After that, all required steps with adequate details for implementing the geophysics methods in the MATLAB from beginning to end are explained. Generally, required steps contain introducing critical parameters, discretizing formulas, importing data into MATLAB, applying geometry of field and data acquisition, generating synthetic data based on a model (modeling), generating a model from acquired field data (inversion), and some tips for interpretation of results. The book tries to cover all required materials in order to be useful and practical for all readers with different backgrounds and experiences.
