About the book
Facial nerve palsy is a common condition presenting to any physician's OPD. In the post- COVID era especially, there has been a surge in the number of cases presenting with pure facial palsy. As primary contact, a physician should be well equipped and know how to properly approach a case of facial paralysis. Appropriate clinical knowledge can avoid unnecessary investigations, and also spare patient/ physician burnout and hospital resources. It is also extremely important that one should not miss out on clinical cues where the patient should be investigated further. This book aims to provide a complete review and serve as a practitioner's guide on approaching facial paralysis. A multidisciplinary team approach is essential when there is no prospect of further recovery of facial nerve function. Synkinesis and facial spasm are uncommon in partially recovered patients, and the use of botulinum toxin can be considered.
