About the book
Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak has caused thousands of fatalities and major socioeconomic impact on the affected area, the Western Africa. With average fatality rate of 50% involving human-to-human transmission, EVD has become one of the highest contagious disease. As the incidence emerged and no cure was found to be effective towards this virus yet, possible disease control approaches have been introduced to prevent the spread. Development of the vaccine and experimental drugs have been stumbled for years, until knowledge of the structure and entry mechanism of this pathogenic filovirus were discovered adequately. Structural characterization and genomic annotation unveil several possible drug targets that paved the way to the antiviral development of this disease.
This book aims to provide a comprehensive overview related to this emerging infectious disease through extensive explanation of the epidemiology, knowledge of structure and biochemical characterization of the rapidly evolving Ebola virus, as well as the progress and challenges on the drug discovery and development effort.
