About the book

Recent advancement in genetic engineering technology and biotechnology have commonly introduced a new class of therapeutic drugs - biotherapeutics. Such drugs are extracted and/or produced from biological sources and sometimes also known as biological drugs. This has revolutionized modern medicine by providing medicines to treat several complicated and life-threatening diseases like malignancy, cardiovascular associated sickness, infectious illness, respiratory diseases, and chronic inflammation and so on. Biotherapeutics is a rapidly growing class of the total pharmaceutical market and represents a significant portion of recently approved new drugs. The biotherapeutics offers a few phenomenal highlights over the conventional small-molecule pharmaceuticals due to their relatively high specificity, low off-target effects, and bio-compatible metabolism, in addition to legal and logistic advantages. Biotherapeutics include a wide assortment of bioactive molecules, for example, monoclonal antibodies, gene-silencing/editing therapies, recombinant proteins, hormones, cytokines, vaccines, growth factors, tissue-engineered products, and stem cell therapies. These drugs can be modified to improve therapeutic effectiveness of the treatment. This book intends to provide the reader with a comprehensive overview of the current advancement in biotherapeutics, and its therapeutic and biomedical application as well as recent progress and challenges.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Ms. Sara Debeuc

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
