About the book

The beginnings of forensic genetics started with Gregor Mendel (known as the father of the modern genetics), who was crucial in creating the basis of genetics known today due to his observations on inheritance.

Nowadays, the DNA analysis represents’’the golden standard’’ in solving caseworks in forensic medicine, such as: establishing the custody of a child through paternity or maternity tests, identifying victims from mass disasters, identifying the perpetrator in crimes or sexual aggression, exonerating innocent people convicted to prison.

This book intends to provide the reader with a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art in the field of forensic genetics, featuring an easy-to-follow, vignette-based format that focuses on the most important scientific developments used in human identification by DNA.
