Humidity sensors play an important role in the assessment of environmental conditions and in industrial processes. The existence of water vapors in an ambient air greatly influences human comfort, wildlife, manufacturing processes, industrial products, agriculture, buildings, and storage. Because of primary concern in a variety of industrial, domestic and commercial applications, the humidity has become the most frequently measured physical parameter. The precise and consistent measurement of humidity in environmental monitoring, civil engineering, building air conditioning, automobile, health caring, food processing, pharmaceutical, medical, agriculture, semiconductor, paper, textile and packaging industries have become progressively more important. Although, many types of humidity sensors have been developed to meet the industrial requirements tremendous research is being carried out in quest of developing more efficient, smart, lightweight, fast response and noise-free humidity sensors.
This book aims to cover most of the topics related to humidity sensors in terms of materials, design, fabrication, and applications. Contributions are welcome to include the importance of humidity, humidity monitoring and control, history of humidity measurement, conventional and modern humidity sensors and sensing mechanisms, new developments in humidity sensors, humidity sensing materials, fabrication technologies and applications of the humidity sensors.
