About the book
A biofuel cell is an electrochemical device, harvesting electricity from chemicals and biochemicals such as glucose and other biomolecules, available in biosystems or even wastes. The development of fabrication systems and advanced materials, such as electrocatalysts, functionalized electrodes, and membranes, is a key to maximize energy-conversion performances. Moreover, many considerations should be kept in mind when applying biofuel cells for applications. This book aims to include a comprehensive collection of chapters, describing the fundamental knowledge, applications, and further perspectives of electrochemical biofuel cell technology.
This book aims also to discuss current debates in scientific communities pertaining to the fundamentals of BFC-based energy devices, material developments, and obstacles in real applications. Highlights on advanced approaches, fabrications, and characterizations of electrochemical BFCs also aim to be collected. In addition to energy applications, examples of emerging applications are self-powered biosensors and bioelectronics.
