About the book

Rapid Prototyping methods, also known as 3D printing or Additive Manufacturing methods are one category of technologies through which in comparison to other well-known methods that are based on subtracting material, in this case, parts are build layer by layer by adding material where is needed and as much as is needed. There are mainly Rapid Prototyping methods known in the World on the market and these methods can be classified in accordance with the type of raw material that is used in the manufacturing process (plastics, composites, ceramics, metals, resins, etc.) as well as they can be classified through the method that is used for binding the material and the source that is used for this process. Some methods are using lasers for polymerizing the material, while other are based on wire extruding method, ink-jet, photo-polymerization, etc. The range of products that can be made using such methods is very wide, starting from industry to medicine. The demands in developing new types of materials or 3D printing methods are in continuous expanding and are in direct relation to the industrial and medical needs.

The current book aims to provide different types of applications where such modern methods, such as Rapid Prototyping / Additive Manufacturing / 3D printing technologies were successfully used in research for rapid product development or for testing of new materials, with applicability in the industrial and medical sector. Bio 3D printing, multi-material 3D printing, smart materials, digitized materials or the use of Advanced manufacturing methods, such as 4D printing are also topics of very high interest in this domain in relation to the book that is aimed to be published , taking into account the progress of the research in this area in the last years.

Applications to edit the book are assessed and a suitable editor is selected, at which point the process begins.

Chapter proposals submitted and reviewed

Deadline for chapter proposals: November 10th 2021

Potential authors submit chapter proposals ready for review by the academic editor and our publishing review team.

Register for the book

Approved chapters written in full and submitted

Deadline for full chapters: January 9th 2022

Once approved by the academic editor and publishing review team, chapters are written and submitted according to pre-agreed parameters

Full chapters peer reviewed

Review results due: March 30th 2022

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: May 29th 2022

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.
