About the book

Self-healing materials (SHM’s) belong to a class of materials, which have the ability to feel the failure and respond in a self-reliant trend to repair or restore structural characteristics when damaged. SHM’s have drawn significant attention and enthusiasm in recent years in a broad range of commercial applications, due to their implications for material safety, enhanced performance and expanded material lifetime; this commercial development has been supported by fundamental and applied research studies. Polymers or elastomers are the most common types of self-healing materials however self-healing covers all classes of materials, including metals, ceramics, and cementitious materials. Healing mechanisms vary from an intrinsic repair of the material to the addition of a repair agent contained in a microscopic vessel. This book aims to provide a timely survey of recent strategies and tactics to accomplishing self-healing functionalities. Contributions addressing the attributes can also be discussed; including a historical overview, summary of current advances and new opportunities.

Review results due: March 5th 2020

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: May 4th 2020

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.
