About the book

The diseases of trees influence our lives more than just as an economic impact through yield loss. This imposes a challenge to sustainable production worldwide. Thus, finding sustainable methods to control these pathogens is in current need. Diseases caused by fungi and Oomycota, Bacterial, Viral, Nematodes, plant-pathogenic algae, and plants will be covered in the book. In this way, identification and characterization methods based on molecular and morphological techniques of these diseases will be approached; incidence and impacts on trees. The management of these diseases of trees will be approached in an integrated manner, using specific monitoring, chemical, biological, genetic host resistance, and cultural methods, taking into account the capacity of these phytoparasites to be affected by the imbalance of productive systems and to comply with the function of Environmental Bioindicators. This book hopes to highlight the results of some recent work regarding the current and emerging challenges of the presence of diseases of trees.

He is also a researcher at the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín de Arequipa (UNSA), Peru. He obtained a master’s degree in Agronomy from the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil, in 2014, a doctorate degree in Crop Protection from the Federal University of Pelotas, Brazil, in 2018, and a post-doctorate degree in Soil Biology and Microbiology from the Federal University of Santa Maria in 2019. He has experience in the field of agronomy with an emphasis on plant pathology and plant nematology. His work is related to the etiology and diagnosis of plant diseases caused by nematodes and fungi, pathogenicity and host-parasite relationships of plant-parasitic nematode diseases, the interaction between plant-parasitic nematodes and soilborne fungi in plants, and biological, cultural, and chemical control of plant-parasitic nematodes.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Ms. Nika Karamatic

As an Author Service Manager, my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
