Dr. Surani is a board trustee for the CHEST Foundation and many other national and international committees. He is serving as editor-in-chief, editorial board member, and reviewer for several peer-review journals. He has authored more than 350 articles in peer review journals and written 50 book chapters. He is a Master Clinician who has trained numerous practicing primary care, internal medicine, and emergency physicians and pulmonary Critical Care fellows in the Coastal Bend region in the USA.

Dr. Syed's research interests are respiratory failure and sepsis. He is an active member of International Societies, currently serving as the Vice Chair of the Non-Respiratory Critical care network for the American College of Chest Physicians and the manager for the CHEST critical care Twitter account. He is also the Twitter ambassador for the Society of critical care medicine, SCCM. He is also an active member of the American thoracic society and the American college of physicians.

Dr. Sharma has a special interest in Pulmonary hypertension and is one of the pulmonary hypertension specialists at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center’s pulmonary hypertension program. He serves as an editorial board member for Health Science Reports, Wiley online library. He is a member of the Pleural disease section of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP). Dr. Sharma is very well respected by his peers in the academic community and is highly respected by his mentee and patients.
