About the book

Nowadays, anticoagulants are the mainstay drugs for the prevention and treatment of thromboembolism and have been widely employed in our clinical practice. There is a dramatic advance from the experimental and clinical evidence regarding the use of anticoagulants during recent years.

This book project entitled "Anticoagulants" primarily aims to collect a series of chapters regarding mechanisms and clinical applications of anticoagulants as well as detailed descriptions of various types of anticoagulants. When talking about specific mechanisms, the topics include, but are not limited to animal study, pathogenesis, pharmacogenetics, etc. Clinical applications range from monitoring the efficacy and safety of anticoagulants, prophylactic and therapeutic values of anticoagulants, management of complications related to the use of anticoagulants, outcomes of patients with venous thromboembolism receiving anticoagulants, etc. Today, current knowledge regarding specific drugs is directed towards the use of traditional and new anticoagulants, such as vitamin K antagonist (i.e. warfarin), heparin (i.e. unfractionated heparin and low molecular weight heparin), and direct oral anticoagulants (i.e. rivaroxaban).
