About the book
Applications of nuclear medicine techniques in diagnosis, staging, and monitoring of diseases have evolved. The miniaturization of equipment and refinement in technology has improved the capability of providing important anatomical and functional information of the urinary system, bones, thyroid, cardiac and other organs. This book will start with an overview of the topic, including definition and clinical basis for Scintigraphy; explore the current trends in equipment, and improvements in techniques leading to better information. The various radionuclides used in Scintigraphy will be highlighted, and packaging, handling, and risks associated with radionuclides will be described. The book will include detailed techniques used in bone, renal, cardiac and thyroid Scintigraphy, including indications and contraindications; and Scintigraphy practice in low resource countries. In summary, this book will attempt to review current trends in Scintigraphy and highlight some challenges of practice in low resource counties. It is hoped that this book will benefit both clinical and non-clinical fellows interested in the subject of Scintigraphy.
