About the book

Bio-Inspired Technology represents a ground-breaking method of scientific research based on innovation and a creative approach of the 'nature' laboratory to be applied to any scientific discipline. This methodology facilitates cross-fertilization of scientific fields, integrating biology and the knowledge about models that eons of evolution have refined in Nature within any scientific discipline. This book proposes an unconventional approach through research at the interface among biology, technology, engineering and architecture in urban environments, industries and technological designs in general, from facades in buildings to stimergy concepts applied to transport developments for Unmaned Air Vehicles for example.

Editors hope to build a line of transformative research based on the adaptation of energy and design solutions from natural models to technical models, using methodologies and solutions which will open new areas of work about how to solve efficiency requirements based on natural solutions honed by evolution. This process is based on creativity and forces researchers to think out of their boxes and open new scientific challenges. What drives the research is the urge to find alternative, more efficient solutions to tackle problems. Due to the wide range of possibilities offered by biodiversity’s tested solutions, the methodology prioritize (although not exclude) solution-based approaches.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Ms. Kristina Kardum

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
