About the book
The overarching scope of this book is aiming to provide a broad overview of the evolving foundational landscape regarding the function of this recently discovered cellular layer; the endothelial layer. Utilizing a step-up approach, the authors begin by describing the physiology of the endothelium and its importance as a regulatory hub for the maintenance of a constant cardiovascular and tissue environment. Mechanisms of endothelial dysfunction and its impact on cardiovascular homeostasis are presented to the reader in a clear and concise manner. Lastly, the relevance of the endothelium in the pathophysiology of highly relevant diseases including diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and metabolic syndrome are also approached. Book intends to provide the readers with chapters about understanding the intriguing role the endothelium plays in the normal function of the cardiovascular system.
