About the book

Bromeliads (Bromeliaceae) are native to subtropical and tropical America. Bromeliaceae consists of approximately 75 genera and 3590 species. Several bromeliads are now among the most economically important ornamentals in the world due to their appealing characteristics in terms of regular plant architecture, flower types, and colors. These plants are frequently used as phytotelmata, storing water between their leaves. The resulting aquatic habitat is home to a wide variety of invertebrates, particularly aquatic insect larvae. A large number of bromeliads have been collected around the world over the last decade. Several bromeliad species are on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, with 13 of them critically endangered. Degradation and loss of forest habitats are the primary causes of bromeliad population decline and species loss.

This book will aim to focus on recent advances in physiology and ecology and some chapters will intend to discuss new methods for propagating and conserving endangered species, as well as new discoveries about the bioactive molecules found in Bromediaceae and their biological effects.
