MARKING BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH - OCTOBER 2015

October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Aimed at raising awareness on how important it is for women to undergo regular medical examinations, the initiative has been one we strongly felt about. That is why we decided to contribute in our own way by making sure our female employees underwent a breast examination sponsored by the company. Moreover, InTechOpen made a donation to NADA, a non-governmental organisation of women who were diagnosed with breast cancer and are now very active in the local community.

We would like to thank NADA for the package they prepared for us and our team member Sandra for baking the most delicious muffins.

HOME AND SHELTER FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS IN NEED

Looking to give back to our local community, we chipped in to raise money and buy a few things to donate to the Home and Shelter for the Children and Young Adults in Need - Braća Mažuranići. Among other, we bought soccer balls, volley balls, rackets and nets for table tennis and badminton, and a dartboard to be donated and put to use by everyone residing at Braća Mažuranići.

WINGS FOR LIFE WORLD RUN

The Wings for Life Run is an initiative organised by Wings for Life, an international non-profit spinal cord research foundation. By taking part to the Wings for Life Run that took place in various cities across the world, participants helped funding research projects aimed at healing the injured spinal cord.

InTechOpen’s team participated to the 2015 Wings for Life Run organised in Zadar, Croatia. The team ran for 96,80 chilometres for all of those people with spinal cord injuries who couldn’t. The team came in at the 639th place among all teams that ran around the world.

We invite you to check out Wings for Life’s website and participate to next year’s run if the event takes place close to your location.

SUPPORTING SOKO - A BRAND THAT EMPOWERS WOMEN

When we decided to celebrate March 8th, 2015, marking the International Women's Day, the girls' at the office thought of finding an original way to get gifts for the female employees while also doing something good for the women's community in general. That's how we found SOKO, a fashion brand that connects consumers with artisans of handcrafted jewelry in the developing world. 74% of these artisans are female whose livelihoods is improved by disrupting the supply chain and connecting them directly to market demand around the world via SOKO's website.

We got our girls beautiful hand-crafted bracelets.
