Vafa Rahimi-Movaghar

Professor Vafa Rahimi-Movaghar was neurosurgeon-in-chief and director of Neurosurgery at Zahedan University of Medical Sciences from 1994 to 2006. He completed his post-doctorate “Research Neurotrauma Fellowship” at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre and the courses of spinal cord injury (SCI) research at the University of Irvine, the USA in 2002. He moved to Sina Trauma & Surgery Research Center (STSRC) affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) in 2006. From 2010 to 2020, he was the research vice-chancellor of the center. His major interest in research is SCI and the global burden of diseases (GBD) and injuries. He was an AOSpine research council member of Iran from 2012 to 2014 and is AOSpine research officer of the Middle East from 2015 to 2017, AOSpine ambassador, and AOSpine Knowledge Forum SCI Member in the next three years. He guides P.h.D by research and post-doctorate students in Neurotrauma all in experimental and clinical traumatic SCI. He holds the first-rank prize of the 19th RAZI Research Festival, the highest national medical award of the medical sciences in 2013, and the prize of the University of Tehran in 2015, and first-rank researcher in Ebn-e-Sina Festival in 2019. He has written in neurosurgical and public health topics with 312 publications, six books, and 13 chapters; 289 papers in PUBMED; 289 in Scopus; Citation: 30,768. http://isid.research.ac.ir/ shows rank 8th among 20,130 medical science professors in Iran. H-index: 51; citation/paper: 84.94. He also has operative experience, which includes 3100 neurosurgical operations. He is now director of Neurotrauma in STSRC of TUMS and director of the National SCI registry in Iran. Since May 2017, he achieves the 1% highest rank scientist in the world based on citations according to Essential Science Indicators (ESI).
