Nuri Faruk Aykan

N. Faruk Aykan is a Professor of Medical Oncology at the Department of Medical Oncology, University of Istinye, İstanbul, Turkey. Prof. Aykan received his MD degree and specialty of Internal Medicine from Ankara University Medical School in 1976 and 1981 respectively. He became Medical Oncologist at the Istanbul University, Institute of Oncology in 1991. His training in Medical Oncology was principally in Istanbul (1988-1991), but also in Paris (Pr. J-P Marie, Hotel-Dieu in 1991). His principal clinical research interests have been in gastrointestinal cancers. He has participated to some international studies such as PETACC-1, CPT-CMA 202, Aventis V-306, V-307, CRYSTAL, RADIANT-2, CORRECT and MODUL. His another area of interest is theoretical biology, especially intercellular communication. Professor Aykan is a honorary member of Turkish Oncology Association. He is member of ASCO, ESMO (certified member) and numerous national societies. He has published 52 scientific papers (40 of them are PubMed indexed), 26 textbook chapters and 107 abstracts in English, French and Turkish in the field of oncology. He is Editorial Board Member of “Turkish Journal of Cancer”, “World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology” and “Acta Oncologica (Turkish Edition)” and Advisory Board Member of “Türk Onkoloji Dergisi” and “Türkiye Klinikleri Tıp Bilimleri Dergisi“.
