Victor Romanowski

Professor

Victor Romanowski (PhD) is a Professor and Principal Investigator at the Institute of Biotechnology and Molecular Biology at the University of La Plata (UNLP) and the National Research Council (CONICET, Argentina). He has been a posdoctoral fellow and visiting researcher in United States and United Kingdom. His research interests include fundamental and applied aspects of the molecular biology of arenaviruses and baculoviruses, as documented in numerous contributions in refereed journals and book chapters. Prof. Romanowski is member of several scientific societies and holds a life membership of the American Society for Virology. He is currently Head of the Department of Biological Sciences at the Faculty of Sciences (UNLP) and also serves on editorial boards and different national and international committees, including the Argentine Society for Virology, the International Committee for the Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV), the Executive Board of the International Union of Microbiological Societies (IUMS), the Board of Directors of the Global Virus Network (GVN). This book is a collection of chapters dealing with examples of RNA and DNA viruses, and issues such as how these gene packages have learnt to take advantage of their hosts, molecular recognition events that hosts may use to counterattack the viruses, and how researchers have developed strategies to use viruses or their parts as tools for different purposes.
