Alvaro Estévez

Alvaro G. Estevez, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Central Florida. Dr. Estevez performed his graduate studies at the University of Buenos Aires and was a post-doctoral fellow with Dr. Joseph S. Beckman at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he become Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. Dr. Estevez was also a faculty member at the Weill Cornell Medical College, the Burke Medical Research Institute and Oregon State University. Dr. Estevez research focalizes on oxidative mechanisms of motor neurons death in ALS. He published over 60 papers and reviews and his work is founded by the NIH/NINDS.

Our understanding of the pathology of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a continuously changing field. New hypotheses are generated with each new discovery; they are abandoned to be reanalyzed after some time under the light of new observations. This book present a series of reviews from experts in different aspects of the disease focus on these hypotheses. There are also a few review chapters providing clear examples of these new observations that make the field to reanalyze previous conclusions.
