Having worked as a coroner (death investigator) in British Columbia for over 20 years, I decided to return to graduate school to pursue a PhD to research SUDY. Although these deaths are relatively rare, they are difficult to diagnose as the current investigational protocols (autopsy, toxicology, medical history) are usually negative. I am researching sudden cardiac death and potential underlying pathophysiological mechanisms to further my understanding of SUDY, to develop investigational protocols for coroners and to write guidelines for death investigation agencies in Canada.
