Maristela Portela

Dr. Maristela Portela is an Adjunct IV Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at the Universidade Federal Fluminense/Niterói, School of Dentistry, Brazil. She researches in areas of oral microbiology, Candida spp. virulence of HIV-infected children and restorative biomaterials. Additionally, she received her DDS degree in 1999 from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (UFRJ, Brazil), her Master Degree in Pediatric Dentistry in 2002 from UFRJ, Brazil and her PhD degree in Biology Sciences (Microbiology and Immunology) from UFRJ, Brazil in 2006. In 2007, she awarded the National Honorable Mention for her doctoral thesis research entitle 'Study of functional proteins of Candida spp. Isolated from oral cavities of Human Virus Immunodeficiency Infected children”. Dr. Portela has published about 40 peer-reviewed papers and she is a member of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR).
