SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF DR. MAGNUS UZOMA IGBOEKWE Born on August 23, 1960 in the family of late Veteran Soldier -Boniface and wife- Benedette Igboekwe of Aku Autonomous Community, Okigwe, Magnus had a B.Sc degree in Physics in 1985 and M.Sc degree in Astrophysics in 1989 both from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. In 2005, he bagged a Ph.D in Physics (Geophysics) from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. Between 1987 and 2011, Dr. Magnus U. Igboekwe had been employed as a Senior lecturer, Department of Physics, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike 1994 - date; a Visiting Scholar in Physics Department, University of Port Harcourt (2010-2011); Consultant, Geogret Terrasciences (Nig) Ltd, (2006-date); Consultant USAID/Winrock International AIDS Impact Mitigation (AIM) Project, Abuja, 2007; Consultant, African Women Leaders in Agriculture and Environment Network (AWLAE-Net) programme, Kenya, 2007; College Teacher, Federal Government College (FGC), Okigwe, 1990-1993; Dean of studies, Marist Brothers’ Juniorate Uturu, (1986-1987). Our distinguished author, Dr.M.U.Igboekwe, is currently the Head of Department of Physics, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, (2010-date). He was also the Proponent of and later the first Coordinator of Pre-degree programme of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, (1998 – 2005). . An accomplished Union Leader, Dr. M.U.Igboekwe was the Secretary of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike ( 2008-2010); Former President General Aku Community Development Union Aku-Okigwe 1989-1992 and later, 2005-2007. A humble religious leader, Dr.M.U.Igboekwe is currently the Chairman of his home Parish Council, Aku Parish-in-building, Aku Okigwe (2009-date); Patron, Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria, Okigwe Diocese; Former Secretary of Chaplaincy Council, Christ the King Chaplaincy, Umudike (1999- 2005) and a Science Columnist in the LUMEN Newspapers of Umuahia Diocese (2003-date). An erudite scholar and prolific writer, our distinguished author has to his credit many published academic and journal articles, books, chapters in books, Newspaper and magazine articles and scores of unpublished academic works in Press. Dr. M.U.Igboekwe was the first Ph.D graduate in Physics (Geophysics) in the Department of Physics, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. He won a TWAS/CSIR Postgraduate research fellowship award (2003) to study Geophysics in The National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad, India. He has travelled extensively within and outside Nigeria for local and international workshops in Geo-resources. He has previously supervised and is currently supervising many B.Sc, M.Sc and Ph.D students in the area of Physics (Geophysics). Dr. M.U.Igboekwe is married to Mrs. Nneka Igboekwe, a University Administrator and they are blessed with children.
