Santiago Vilar González

Dr. Santiago Vilar González is a Clinical Oncology (Radiation Therapist) at the University of Barcelona. He did his specialty training at the Catalan Institute of Oncology. He completed his training with stays in internationally renowned centres such as MD Anderson and the Methodist Hospital, in Houston, and New York University Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre in New York City. Part of his working life included creating an integrated radiation oncology service in the form of a cancer institute (IMOMA) and its activity in many medical centres such Platon Clinic (Barcelona), Cancer Institute of Castilla-La Mancha (Toledo), Hospital Universitario de San Juan (Alicante), and University Hospital (Albacete). He is active and founding member of several scientific societies and associations among which include: Spanish Society of Radiation Oncology (SEOR), European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO), Spanish Society of Radiosurgery (SER), Clinical Research Group in Radiation Oncology (GICOR) URONCOR (Prostate workgroup from SEOR), Association of NeuroOncology in Valencia (ANCOVA), Radiation Oncology North Group (GORNOR) and of Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy Spanish Group (SBRT Spanish Group). He has worked actively with various associations and companies in their fight against cancer (Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), Ars Vitality and www.ayudacancer.com website), giving lectures on epidemiology and cancer prevention, and providing advice and information care. He has also participated in the launch of new radiotherapy techniques in institutions where he has worked. He is an active participator in the development and implementation of clinical trials with different centres and institutions. Without ignoring the rest of tumour pathology, he is especially interested in prostate cancer and the central nervous system, areas in which he edited two separate manuals about multifactorial management.
