Professor Gueorgui Balatzenko, MD, Ph.D., runs the genetic and molecular diagnostics as a head of the laboratory and Professor of Hematology at the National Haematology Hospital, Sofia, Bulgaria. He has specialized at the Red Cross Blood Bank, Groningen-Drenth, The Netherlands; Institute Paoli-Calmettes-Marseille, and Necker-Enfans Malades-Paris, France. His major scientific interests include molecular aspects of leukaemogenesis, elucidation of incidence and clinical relevance of molecular biomarkers in chronic and acute leukemias and molecular monitoring of treatment response. Gueorgui Balatzenko has authored and co-authored many articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. He is a member of medical societies such as the Bulgarian Society of Hematology, the Bulgarian Society of Genetics, the European Hematology Association, a life member of UICC, and a referee for international journals.
