Ashis Kumar Samanta
Dr. Ashis Kumar Samanta currently serves as a consultant in textile chemical processing. He brings extensive experience as a former professor and head of the Department of Jute and Fibre Technology at the University of Calcutta, India. Dr. Samanta has held leadership roles in various committees, notably chairing the TXD-07 committee on specialty Chemicals and dye stuff of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Board of Studies for the Bachelor of Fashion and Apparel Design (BFAD) program at the University of Calcutta. He is a valued member of WG-31 of the ISO/TC 38 Committee. With a commitment to advancing knowledge in textile science and engineering, Dr. Samanta serves as an associate editor for the AATCC Journal of Research and contributes to the AATCC’s Publication Committee. He is also an esteemed editorial board member for prestigious journals such as the Indian Journal of Fibre & Textile Research (IJFTR) and the Journal of The Institution of Engineers (India) Series E. Dr. Samanta\'s contributions extend beyond academia, as evidenced by his involvement as a RAC and QRT advisory board member for the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology (ICAR-NINFET), and his role as an expert member of the Technical Research Advisory Committee for Khadi/Textiles at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Rural Industrialization (MGIRI), India. His significant impact on standards development is noteworthy, having contributed to the development of ten BIS Test Standards and five ISO Test Standards for the identification of natural dyes. Dr. Samanta has led 16 R&D projects and 2 Human Resource Development (HRD) training initiatives, showcasing his dedication to advancing the field. As a mentor, Dr. Samanta has guided fifteen Ph.D. students and has authored over 350 publications, including 150 research papers. His outstanding contributions have been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Dr. Triguna Charan Sen Award (1996 and 2014), the Bharat Nirman Award (2014), and an Eminent Engineer Award (2019).
