Ara Kaprelyan

Curriculum Vitae Prof. Ara Kaprelyan was born on 07 June 1961. He graduated Higher Medical Institute of Varna in 1988. He is specialist in neurology since 1992, PhD since 2005, Associate professor since 2008, and professor since 2013. He is chief of First Clinic of Neurology, member of Consultative Council and Board of Directors (2010-2015) at University Hospital “St. Marina”, Varna, Bulgaria. Prof. Kaprelyan is head of Department of Neurology and Neurosciences at Varna Medical University. Dr. Kaprelyan is expert in neurology of National health insurance fund and Republican consultant of Ministry of Health for North-East region of Bulgaria. His postgraduate education includes specialization in neuro-oncology and clinical immunology (Bratislava Postgraduate Institute; Tel Aviv University Hospital “Tel-Hashomer”), otoneurology (Maastricht Research Institute for Neuroscience), clinical epileptology (European Academy of Epilepsy), clinical immunology (ESCI), movement disorders (MDS), electrophysiology, flow cytometry, and study in Master program of Public health and Health management (Varna Medical University). His professional and research interests are in the field of neuro-oncology, neurodegenerative diseases, MS and epilepsy. He has over 110 scientific publications, authorship of 1 monograph, and co-authorship in 5 medical books. He is member of Bulgarian Society of Neurology (member of Administrative Coucil and Chairman of Varna Regional Branch), Bulgarian Association of Neuro-oncology (Vice-president), International Medical Association “Bulgaria”, EFNS, EANO, EAN (member of Scientific Panels of Neuroepidemiology and Neurooncology), and MDS. He is a reviewer of “Journal of Neuroimaging”, “Scripta Scientifica Medica”, Editor of magazines “Bulgarian Neurology” and Journal of IMAB. Dr. Kaprelyan is member of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Rotary International, International Order of Anysetiers, and Association of Bulgarians Abroad (Vice-president). In 2012 was enlisted in the National Encyclopedia “Eminent Bulgarians of Contemporary Bulgaria”.
