Arjan Bastiaan Van As
Prof Sebastian van As (MBChB, MMed, MBA, FCS(SA), PhD) heads the Trauma Unit at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town since 2000. It is the only dedicated Trauma Unit for children under the age of 13 years in Africa. He was elected President of Childsafe South Africa in 2006. He published extensively and edited a text book on paediatric trauma and child abuse in 2006. In his various capacities he has been active in a wide range of child safety initiatives regarding child injuries as well as child abuse, nationally as well as internationally.
