Mariana Amorim Fraga was born in the city of Bom Jesus da Lapa, Brazil, on May 11, 1980. She obtained her PhD in Mechanical and Materials Engineering from the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA) and Master degree in Microelectronics (Electrical Engineering) from the University of São Paulo (USP). She is currently working on properties and applications of wide bandgap semiconductor materials, thin films and coatings. Her research interests are in the areas of materials science, microelectronics, energy and aerospace engineering. More specifically, She has been working on silicon carbide, diamond, diamond-like carbon (DLC), aluminium nitride and titanium dioxide. The main applications are in the: (i) development of micro-electro-mechanical (MEMS) sensors and microelectronic devices, especially for harsh environments (ii) development of materials for solar energy conversion and (iii) development of coatings for technological applications.
