Luis H. Reyes

Universidad de Los Andes

Luis H. Reyes is a Chemical Engineer from Universidad Industrial de Santander (Colombia) and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University (TAMU) (USA). He worked as an intern during his Ph.D. studies in Genomatica Inc, in the Synthetic Biology Group. He did a postdoc at TAMU working on bioprocess engineering for carotenoids production in yeast. Luis received the Director's Fellowship at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, NREL (USA), where he did a postdoc in the Biosciences Center developing a Clostridium thermocellum strain towards the New Generation of Consolidated Bioprocessing, using a combination of metabolic engineering, molecular biology, and evolutionary engineering. Luis completed the third postdoc at the Institute for Inborn Errors of Metabolism at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Colombia), focused on improving human recombinant protein production in Escherichia coli using synthetic biology approaches. Currently, he is an assistant professor at Universidad de Los Andes (Colombia) in the Department of Chemical and Food Engineering and Director of the Product and Process Design Research Group. Dr. Reyes has ample experience in synthetic and molecular biology, genome engineering, bioprocess engineering, evolutionary engineering, and nanobiotechnology.
