Rasik Ravindra

National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research

Dr. Rasik Ravindra, held the position of Director, National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, Goa, between 2006 and 2012. Prior to this he served in the Geological Survey of India for 35 years in various capacities. He was Chair Panikkar Professor at the Ministry of Earth Science between 2012 and 2015, Member of the UN Commission on Limits of Continental Shelf between 2014 and 2017 and the Secretary General of 36th IGC between 2019 and 2020, when it had to be postponed due to the Covid Pandemic. A geologist by profession, Dr. Ravindra holds a Ph. D. in Polar geomorphology of Schirmacher Oasis, eastern Antarctica. He has worked in Precambrian terrain of northwestern and northeastern India, western Indian Himalaya, Bhutan Himalaya, Eastern Antarctica and Svalbard in the Arctic. He has been associated with the Indian Antarctic and Arctic Program since 1987 and 2008 respectively and has held the position of Vice President of Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) and Vice Chair of Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs (COMNAP). His areas of his current interest are: Antarctic geology, Polar and periglacial geomorphology, landform evolution and Polar Paleoclimate.
